Dadub | Untitled | Stroboscopic Artefacts

ListenDadub Untitled

At the center of Dadub’s SA020 lie the myths of the ancient Greek goddess Demeter. The opening track is ‘Mistresses March’, an odyssey, unhappy and unflinching, a thumping narrative of Demeter’s search for her abducted daughter Persephone. Based on the handmade modular synth system from Nicola Buono and Lino Monaco, the representation of ceremony drink ‘Kykeon’ is on one hand a flowing narrative and on the other a demonstration of intense artistic scrutiny: a perfect, unremitting thud. Little details, significant differences. Powered by a sound and groove generator invented by Daniele de Santis (Grün), ‘Ergot Kernel’ is a chemical cauldron. It’s a beat continuously emerging from the undergrowth; a train ploughing on, coursing through an arid landscape. Conversely, the atmosphere is bright, full of electricity and warmth. Dadub’s SA020 is a journey through a Greek myth, with textural magnificence and technological innovation.

Voorn and Oosterwals Amsterdam based Imprint Rejected has delivered a versatile concoction of dexterous house and techno since it started back in 2006 and on this occasion it’s Wouter de Moor whose turn it is to produce the goods. The title track Nymphi is an upbeat number that relies on a funky organ, bouncy bassline and well crafted percussion with splashy hats. Wouter de Moor closes the EP with B.L.T: crafted on a stripped back tip, with driving hats and a snappy clap, it fronts a sporadic bassline with an intermittent moody synth that’s ready and waiting for any fuel-filled set.The Amsterdam based producers inaugural outing for Rejected follows on from whats already a catalogue of fine creative releases.

Flubba | Feel For You | Cimelde

ListenFlubba Feel For You

It is time for the next Cimelde installation with a new act that’s sound very promising. Flubba is about to unleash his debut sampler, a five track anthemic jammer. Kinda like a mini album teaser… Beginning with the futuristic Feel For You piece, warm but raw at the same time with a distinguished synth trademark rolling all over the track. Bit more laid back housy approach on Eyes On You, with the ethereal vocals that flows as minutes go by lightly and some hypnotizing arpeggios that rap things up pretty well. With Heartbeat as a perfect follower since it spreads a veil of pop electric aroma sending you back to the floor. Downward is a strip down tool with a grit bass hook, steady proceeding to a graceful mover, with a more organic texture most definitely will cause no ear harm… Closing title and Get Along With You reconfiguring things with a more analog sampling, a moody track for sure followed by some pitch down vocals underneath. Nice construction with some oddly but well arranged loops, its the perfect way to make this EP complete. Flubba shows his many aspects of music making and his first presentation proves that only quality will follow.

ListenBlamma! Blamma! featuring Kristina Train Zsa Zsa

Blamma! Blamma! give us a new single ‘Zsa Zsa’, a piano-laden, deep disco gem featuring the gorgeous vocals of Kristina Train. This slo-mo beauty oozes Balearic charm with oscillating synths, live elements and a massive chorus that should keep discerning dancefloors moving until next summer. Wolf + Lamb are on the flip with their deep, rolling house remix – harnessing trippy, undulating synths to create great layers within the track. Snare drums also inject pace and groove to hypnotic effect.

Next up on JD Records is Fix feat. Orlando Voorn & Blake Baxter. Some more classic house is on the menu here. Starting off with “From The Ghetto” which is a strong hypnogroove house banger! On the remix you’ll find Barcelona’s man of the moment “Baldo”. On the other side is “Here We Are”, which is a deep groovin’ and warm Detroit sounding house track. The remix treatment is from another one of Barcelona’s new emerging talents “Clip!”. Here he gives us a brilliant new version featuring all the right Detroit elements.

Hufschlag & Braun Voices

Listen

With POM009 Poesie Musik continues to release electronic music made by the next generation of producers. This time it’s cologne’s finest duo Hufschlag & Braun who have been championed by De:Bug with the words ”anthem like summer hit”, for their debut release. This time they deliver two original tracks with great additional remixes. First it’s ‘Voices’, with a strong melodic lick based on synth driven melancholic backing track. Remixes come from Hobo out of the M_Nus camp who has more of a tech-house approach while the other remix is handled by Kindisch’s Less Hate who adds his signature warmth and nostalgic ambiance. The second original track is ‘We dont give up the Boyz’, which was premiered by Wankelmut on his Wankelmoods Vol. 1 Mix CD earlier this year. More techno-orientated this track comes with a remix by Ferdinand Dreyssig & Marvin Hey who did great tracks on Katermukke so far and are well known for djing at Bar 25, Sisyphos and Kater Holzig for the last couple of years. Finally Leif Müller representing Stuttgart’s Common Sense People Crew delivers a dark minimal techno rework and rounds up a great package of fresh electronic club music.

Toby Tobias Burning Love EP

Listen

The British label Delusions of Grandeur in his latest EP has had two tracks of Dj and producer Toby Tobias, 2 tracks with analog sounds, touch of acid …. ‘It’s Burning’ with a beginning with 808, dark and strong and crazy progression until they enter the vocal contrasting with crazy synths, ‘I Give You Love’ similar to the above, here more vocals and more organized all, more quiet and subdued than the previous one track that comes with the remix of the british collective LHT (London Housing Trust) increase BPM, and carry the remix directly for enjoyment in the dance floor, a bomb to dance; and the great Lauer remix the other track ‘It’s Burning’ taming the follies of the original, with great bass line and very fine synthesizers, bringing the remix to the dance floor, another bomb, and to complete the EP, the digital version includes the demo of ‘It’s Burning’, somewhat shorter the final version, and more raw.

Patchworks Give My Love EP

Listen

Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart is definitely a name to remember if you’re interested in today’s groove Music scene. After playing as a bassist and guitarist for various bands, he started producing in the mid-nineties and has kept on mixing today’s technologies with the raw spirits of House, Electronic, Disco, Funk, Soul & Jazz music’s golden years since then.

Following the trail of success left by his various projects as Patchworks, and under many aliases such as Mr President,Uptown Funk EmpireThe Dynamics or Metropolitan Jazz Affair, he’s proved his musical ubiquity album after album and unexpectedly stroke in various genres. And over the past 15 years, he’s therefore collaborated, amongst others, with labels like Q-Tape, Rotax Disques, Big Single, or Favorite Recordings.

For this new EP, he teams up again with Favorite Recordings team, but this time under the EDR Records’ umbrella, bringing us back to their early love for House and Deep-House music. Many House music diggers over the world would indeed remember that before Favorite Recordings was launched in 2005, Pascal Rioux and Patchworks were famous for their various club hits on the RIP Rotax Disques imprint. It’s now time for EDR Records to take over what’s been left by the Rotax era…

First EDR official release of a long series to come, this 3 tracks EP is strongly armed for killing any dancefloor!! On the A side, “Give My Love” pays tribute to Sylvester or Ten City, also revealing a new talented singer from Lyon called Sabba MG. As for the B side, “House Music” and “Enjoy Yourself” are clearly infected by some of the best early producers of the genre such as Jovonn, Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Basil, Kerri Chandler, or A Guy Called Gerald to name just a few…

Various Artists DJ T. Pres. 25 Years of DJing - 1988-2013 (One Track Per Year), Pt. 2

Listen

Ever since the late 1980s, Thomas Koch aka DJ T. has played a key role on the international electronic circuit as a DJ, producer, label mastermind, club & event promoter, journalist and magazine publisher. His recent output has been a true treat for our ears, captured for posterity on his third and most successful album to date, “The Pleasure Principle” as well as countless of compilations, singles, remixes and edits, supported by two global DJ tours. 2013 saw the 25th anniversary of T.’s DJ career – an event the veteran virtuoso plans to celebrate with another tour of the world. Kicking off in August 2013, travels will take him all across Europe and then – far into next year – through the remaining continents.

To mark the occasion, Get Physical has prepared several releases, including a new EP featuring DJ T.’s own tracks and a follow-up to his sought-after compilation series (launched in 2011). Lauded as some of the most unusual, inspiring and acclaimed digital compilations of recent years, the series’ previous three issues serve as DJ T.’s very personal homage to the once popular and opinion-leading (genre) compilations, a format that has lost much of its influence and sway in the digital age. “DJ T. Pres. 25 Years of DJing – 1988-2013 (One Track Per Year) – Part 1″ is split into two issues of 25 tracks each, introducing one track for every year and was already released in the end of july, pt. 2, the latest edition of this series, will follow the same concept and will be released in the end of oct.

The compilation’s name says it all: To mark this unique occasion, DJ T. spent nights on end scouring his record shelves to assemble a spectacular track list; a track list reflecting all those cuts that have shaped his career. The result of months of intensive research and licensing has paid off with a true treasure: Both parts of the compilation boast a balanced mix of well-known hits and secret gems covering the entire breadth of musical styles that have influenced DJ T.’s sound over the last 25 years. What’s more, most of these tracks have never been available in a digital format before – and some of them even received the welcome DJ T. treatment with subtle edits and re-mastering.

Shinedoe | The Road to Samadhi | BPitch Control

Shinedoe The Road to Samadhi

Listen

Amsterdam’s Shinedoe is a virtuoso in creating floor-conquering productions. In this trip to the Samadhi state of consciousness, she has packed two new tracks in her suitcase. The ecstatic „Pure Groove“, driven by jacking claps, has an intense tension that arises from the interaction of synths, bass and rhythm. This drama is juxtaposed by wonderful pads which are a fantastic surprise. Conversely, the title track „The Road To Samadhi“ swaddles itself in a deep deep techno vibe. Swaying groove and melody generates this distinct dynamic.

Cosmin TRG | Terminus Abrupt (Legowelt Remix) / Noise Code (Miles Remix) | 50 WEAPONS

Cosmin TRG Terminus Abrupt

Listen

It is very tempting and relatively easy to follow a proven path when you are a successfully established artist. Full of risks, but ultimately more rewarding is an inventive and ever changing approach to music making. Cosmin TRG ́s sophomore album “Gordian” is a great example of an artist continuously pushing his own boundaries and denying genre limitations of any kind. It is a mature masterpiece. Not easy listening material, but a delightful listen, packed with plenty of rewarding oddities if you care to really take your time with it.

50 Weapons is preparing a series of remix singles to highlight the DJ aspects of the album. What started with a personal wishlist from Cosmin TRG has turned into a series of splendid remixes. If you don ́t know who Legowelt is, you have not been following electronic music for long. The dutch producer began releasing music in the 90ies and his list of project names easily fills a couple of pages. His remix of “Terminus Abrupt” is a timeless, superlative techno monster. A synth heavy post Detroit anthem for the floor. Miles Whittaker is one half of Pendle Coven, one half of Demdike Stare and known as Miles or MLZ for his solo works. His remix of “Noise Code” is exactly the superb demonstration of deep drone techno dub epicness you would expect.

Monday Club | Looking For Lewis EP | ALiVE Recordings

Monday Club Looking For Lewis EP

Listen

The London-based, Monday Club duo, are a relatively new name on the scene, having only released the one cut under this newly formed guise, entitled Flavono which featured on the 5 Years of ALiVE comp. The pair have chosen to keep their identities under wraps for now, but its safe to say they’re highly skilled producers, sitting alongside the likes of Chris James, Leftwing and Kody, and NTFO on the ALiVE roster. The single kicks off with the original mix of Flynn, a gritty house number built around raw 909 drums, low- end organ hits and classic hi-strings, while an amalgamation of vocal licks, baroque percussive changes and intermittent bass stabs create an ever-evolving dynamic as things progress. Following is Bent Over, taking on a different format to the opener, this time Monday Club opt for a more electronic feel, bringing a heady, acidic style bass hook to the forefront, while Detroit style pads, shuffled drums, and spoken word vocals add a touch of class to the composition. On the latter half of the release, we have the final cut from Monday Club, entitled D.M.T., this time taking on a more direct, deep-house format to wind down the original material brilliantly. Organic percussion, warm strings and soft chord stabs take the reins, again resulting in a smooth workout instilled with proficient production skills. Last up to close the EP, label-head Tom Budden reshapes Flynn, Tom turns in a stunning interpretation with a unique twist on the original, as saw-wave tones replace the organ bass hook and heavily processed, cosseting melodies and piano hits brilliantly meander round them.

Phonique | For the Time Being Remixes | Dessous Recordings

Phonique For the Time Being Remixes

Listen

Phonique is next up for the Dessous Classics project, providing four un-missable mixes of his outstanding track ‚For the Time Being‘. Originally released on his ‚Identification‘ long player from 2004, the track features the eternally haunting sounds of Whitest Boy Alive, Erlend Øye. Kicking off the release is Phonique‘s own 10 Years After Remix – pulling out all the stops and providing a truly fresh take on the track, layering up the emotive synths into an evolving and epic 8 minutes of joy. Englander Burnski also delivers his A-game, twisting the original into a club-ready deep bomb – Øye‘s vocal takes a back seat and focus is firmly on the groove. Rounding off this release is of course the original track, which still sounds every bit as vital as it did 10 years ago. The Remix Album for ‘For The Time Being’ (incl. more new mixes) will be released in December. A preview is now available in selected stores.

Exercise One | Tales Of Ordinary Madness | Exone

Exercise One Tales Of Ordinary Madness

Listen

Exercise One are hardly electronic music outsiders. The Berlin duo are currently celebrating ten years together, and, as illustrated by the cast of artists on their three anniversary remix EPs (Sigha, Donato Dozzy, Ewan Pearson, Peter Van Hoesen), these two are well-connected. Yet Marco Freivogel and Ingo Gansera remain untamed, still chafing against the niceties of orthodox techno production.

You could broadly describe their sound as barrelling warehouse techno, underpinned by the kind of scowling, blackened bass sounds that link Silent Servant, Anthony Rother with The Cramps. A distinct post-punk, electro-noir shadow lies across Exercise One’s work. But that’s only the basic chassis upon which Exercise One build their machine funk. On “Verlooka” they finesse a minimal wave sound with a little Balearic soft rock guitar. On “Stay,” with its flickering, atmospheric electronics and pitch-shifted, undead vocals, they basically out-Knife The Knife. Both tracks show how naturally they stray from identifiable styles and floor-ready bangers.

Not that they struggle to get feet moving. “Gatium” is an outrageous rehabilitation of minimal techno’s playful absurdity. Atop a warm and dubby fug of splashy hi-hats and percolating bass, a drunken, dislocated synth line wanders to and fro, charming in its bumbling aimlessness. Indeed, as much as Exercise One deal in dark music, the warm melodies and generally fun nature of their work is one of its key aspects. “Electric Glare,” for instance, is a riot of pulsating synths and jackhammer beats that plays on voguish industrial sounds. It never quite coaleses into a dance floor track, but thanks to its taut, vintage-electro elasticity, it sounds weirdly effervescent. “The Raven,” meanwhile, hovers in Berghain territory, but features a fat, globular riff much more hooky and direct than anything you might hear on Ostgut Ton. It’s a subtle kind of subversion, perhaps, but Exercise One never do quite what you expect. That is always admirable, and at times it sounds fantastic.

Jonsson/Alter | En Melodi | Kontra Musik

Jonsson Alter En Melodi

Listen

While waiting for the new Jonsson & Alter album 2, the duo releases their best 12-inch so far. We say welcome back to a matured duo, whose poetic take on house music hits harder than ever.

Jonsson & Alter’s debut album Mod, released autumn 2011, was the result of an unexpected collaboration. The producers Henrik Jonsson (Porn Sword Tobacco, Gunnar Jonsson) and Joel Alter (Jor-El) ran into one another in Berlin and discovered that they lived not very far from each other in Neukölln. Since they were already acquainted they exchanged phone numbers and after just a few jam sessions, they had created enough material for an album. Reviewers and listeners received Mod with open arms; everyone loved the combination of melancholy, romantic melodies and deep housebeats.

On the EP En Melodi the duo continue to work on their signature sound but production, kick and bass hits us harder this time. En Melodi is a very deep piece of music where a very Swedish sounding and beautiful piano melody sets the tone. But under the sophisticated atmosphere lies a very minimal and efficient drum programming which energy contrasts hard against the melancholy harmonies.

Cosmin TRG | Panoramic | Running Back

Cosmin TRG Panoramic

Listen

Cosmin TRG is back with a three-track EP for Gerd Janson’s Running Back label. The Panoramic EP is described as “three cuts for the techno dancefloor and all the other ones,” which likely means it will continue down the path Cosmin TRG has been on for a while now, crafting melodically tinged and sonically detailed techno music.

After sharing news of a forthcoming remix EP featuring reworks of his tracks from Leogwelt and Demdike Stare’s Miles Whittaker, Cosmin TRG has detailed his next release of original productions, a three-track EP for Gerd Janson’s Running Back label. The Panoramic EP is described, rather plainly, as “three cuts for the techno dancefloor and all the other ones,” which likely means it will continue down the path Cosmin TRG has been on for a while now, crafting melodically tinged and sonically detailed techno music. Marking his first release for Running Back, the record will arrive in early November. For now, its artwork and tracklist are included below

Oleg Poliakov | Random Is a Pattern | Circus company

Oleg Poliakov Random Is a Pattern

Listen

Since first swearing allegiance to the Circus, he has continued to unfurl a refined approach to house and techno that carefully balances a respectful mastery of the classic tropes of the genre with his own instinct for seductive melodic content. Finally, after no less than eleven singles for labels such as Bass Culture and Eklo as well as us, the time has come for Oleg to embrace the album format and take us on a journey that stretches beyond the immediacy of a dancefloor 12” and captures perfectly where he is at right now.

As the preceding single C.A.V.O.K has revealed, there is a techno spirit roaming the circuitry of Olegʼ s studio, tussling with the delay and reverb gates, firing off focused, intricate rhythms and unafraid of whipping up a mean-tempered kick or two. Across Random Is A Pattern you can hear such energy surging out of tracks like “Beyond” and “Anatomy Of A Shipwreck”, with the latter having an especially tough rhythm section. However, these cuts have just as much brain as they do brawn, and in between
the driving drums sit haunting pads, ethereal dub textures and curious string harmonies. This is not an album of functional club tracks though, far from it. Recognising the value of the long player as a vessel for exploration, Oleg turns his hand to some truly unexpected patterns and tones. “A Quiet Storm” comes from the school of classic ambient electronica and leftfield broken beat, while “Holy You” makes for one of the most startling moments on the album with a powerfully resonant vocal sample over plaintive piano and a fractured rhythm.

New Release Information While some may be surprised to hear the styles that Oleg has turned his hand to, the eleven tracks are undeniably his. In his choice of mysterious chords and moving key structures, he continues along the smooth creative arc he has been carrying us on since he first emerged. When he can demonstrate such a gift for diverse tempos and moods and make them all sit together comfortably as his own, Random Is A Pattern marks a perfect culmination of what has come before, not to mention being an exciting precursor to what will come after.

Raudive | A System Of Objects | Macro Recordings

Raudive A System Of Objects

Listen

Insoluble blend of synthetic and organic textures and rhythms by exploratory producer and sound artist, Raudve, for Stefan Goldmann’s Macro label. An unusual piece of work, may appeal to fans of Rashad Becker, Non Place, Jamal Moss, Frak** “When Messiaen set out to transcribe birds songs as models for his compositions, he couldn’t have predicted that by now wild birds would have started to learn mobile phone ringtone patterns. For A System of Objects, RAUDIVE aka OLIVER HO maps an obliquely constructed world in which you lose all certainty of what is nature and what is design. Raudive celebrates dance and auditory scenes as rituals, employing our surroundings as sources of ahistorical found sound – primitive technologies used to reach magickal states. A drum machine and a wooden stick, a sawtooth-shaped electric current and a split rock all turn into empirical objects of the same class, without a definite past or a predictable impact.

Literon | Knob Explotation | Clone Basement Series

Literon Knob Explotation

Listen

Clone staple, Gerd gets his Literon pants on for a steaming basement techno session. A-side ‘Knob Exploration’ is a dead shifty house/techno hybrid laced with nagging vocal stab and sparked off with driving 909 hi-hats. B-side ‘Freak Function’ is better yet, coming off like a particularly rude Mike Dehnert groove with it’s swooping bass and a gritty, grinding synthline.

Alex Dolby | Nefesis | Affekt Recordings

Alex Dolby Nefesis

Listen

Alex Dolby, better known to his friends as Alessandro Salvatori, has made quite an impact since stepping into the world of electronic music over ten years ago. Looking back over his discography, Dolby’s productions skills are evident, having released material with the likes of Bedrock, Viva, and Rawthentic Music. Last year saw Alex launch the Affekt nightclub in his hometown of Frosinone, which then led to the launch of the Affekt Recordings imprint, where this LP will be released. Since launching, the label has seen support from Jonas Kopp, Sei A, DVS1, Kirk Degiorgio, and Raresh, testament to the outstanding quality of its output. As a whole ?Nefesis’ embraces a hypnotic, ever-evolving Techno focus, Dolby opts for an energetic tempo throughout the L.P, and fuses cavernous atmospherics with up front drum programming and penetrating bass, to achieve a well rounded package instilled with an undeniable underground appeal. Records like ?Eastern Market’ and ?lnterlude’ display an ethereal ruggedness to Dolby’s productions, while ?Morphosis’ and ?Ramshackle’ embrace a more hedonistic, insistent vibe. Further highlights come in the shape of ?Spiral’ with its psychedelic, hypnotic vibe, and ?Paranco’ with it’s dubbed out feel, glitchy synth lines and bubbling percussive hits. ?Purple’ shows us another side to Dolby, with emotive string melodies, soft pads and straight 4/4 drums, dissecting some aesthetics of house music and cleverly blending them with the Techno vibe running throughout the record. ?Acidness’ takes things in the opposite direction, opting for tension building atmospherics, earth shattering drum programming and murky vocal lines to create an eerie up-tempo number. All in all, Dolby delivers a fantastic L.P here with ?Nefesis’, adding yet another stellar release to the impressive early stage of the Affekt Recordings imprint.

RVDS | Moon On Milky Way | Smallville

RVDS Moon On Milky Way

Listen

Despite joking with his friends that his music alias RVDS could be an abbreviation for a number of things such as “Rich Violet Detroit Sound” or “Rude Visions Destroys Science”, it’s relatively easy to see where producer Richard von Der Schulenburg got his inspiration from. Based in Hamburg, Schulenburg has been a resident DJ at the city’s finest club – the Golden Pudel – for oven seven years and has tightly woven himself, alongside other luminaries, into the influential house scene in Hamburg. In the time since commencing his residency at Pudel, Schulenberg started his own label ‘It’s in 2008, roping in talents such as Felix Kubin and A Different Jimi, among a small selection of others, but mainly using it as an outlet for his own fragile ideas and creations. Fellow Hamburg resident and Dial head honcho Lawrence describes him as “an excellent producer playing the keys of deepness all night and day,” a comment which has since seen them team up with fellow Dial member Christian Naujoks for a musical project titled Skywalking. Despite none of their recordings being online yet, the project has been mentioned in interviews as a Krautrock-Jazz-Space band that acts as a ‘musical conversation’ between all three artists. In more recent times Schulenburg released his second full length album Moments and also found his way onto the popular Acid Test series alongside Joey Anderson, having remixed Tin Man’s brilliant “Finger Paint”. With RVDS being such an integral part of the Golden Pudel family and the Hamburg scene, it’s no surprise that his newest release finds him debuting on another of the city’s main attractions; the record shop and label Smallville.

Titled Moon On Milky Way, the release features three tracks that take Schulenburg’s soft touched house approach to even gentler levels. This is immediately observable with opening track “Monday Rain”, which prolongs a simple acid tinged melody for the duration of the track with minor alterations. All this against a background of barely audible rain patter, and it’s very easy to describe the track as therapeutic even. Title track “Moon On Milky Way” and “Winter Moonness” follow a similar approach but on a more traditional four by four beat and are the type of tracks where you can press play, gird yourself in for seven minutes and magically zone out from their effervescent but simplistic appeal. A milestone in the sweetest of analogue house music, dedicated to the moon.

Listen

Always a wildcard and hardly predictable in the studio, UK based producer Copy Paste Soul delivers club hits that recurrently excite different crowds. With a distinct sound that often swirls his love for Detroit techno and the prominent garage sounds of the UK and now US, this is one of those all-vibes fabrications thatll keep the word-of-mouth in full effect.” (Earmilk) With his current EP “I Wanna Be” on Exploited, Copy Paste Soul has made a very concrete attempt at defining his own brand of groove without boxing himself in. The result is a refreshingly progressive look at deep house and excitement for more releases.

Kellerkind | Music Is a Miracle | Stil Vor Talent Records

Kellerkind Music Is a Miracle

Listen

Over the past couple of years, Kellerkind’s unique interpretation of house music has truly catapulted him out of the figurative basement and into the limelight. Whether it was the disco-infused cool of ‘Backflash’ or the tribal rhythms found on his debut-album ‘Basement Story’, through hard work, rather than by miracle, Marco Biagini matured into a producer who is at the top of his game. With ‘Music is a Miracle’ Kellerkind now delivers a sophomore album that offers itself as a diverse and surprising love letter to music, carrying his distinct handwriting.

On ‘Your Love’, Kellerkind organically eases us into the album as deep bongos float over casual guitar licks and drawn-out synth melodies. Gentle murmurs slowly form into a distant soul vocal while sunny saxophones create a relaxed and beautifully fragile vibe. ‘Don’t You Know It’ then tightens the screws. Here, cowbells and laser-synths scream trademark Kellerkind: sugary without being cheesy, laidback yet never losing sight of the groove. It’s time to warm up the discotheque, don’t you know!? Kellerkind does, as he proves on ‘I Know’ and treats us to filtered disco breaks, colourful chords and a smooth vocal hook.

Things get a little tougher on the next tracks. While ‘Give Me the Beat Back’ utilises a ghetto chant, dubbed out chords and hard-hitting snares to showcase a bouncy, UK-sounding bass-line, ‘Projection’ loops Jake The Rapper’s instantly recognisable voice and a classic disco riff to create seven minutes of moreish fun. ‘Music is a Miracle’, the album’s title-track, then reveals itself as a standout. Here, an extremely funky garage bass-line, Chicago strings and urgent trumpets surprise us as they drop after a Moodyman-esque monologue. Mantra-alert!

Taking a dreamier turn, Kellerkind’s ‘Feel It’ is wonky and mechanical as it builds into a melodic climax that leaves you lost on the dance-floor, suspended in time. A beautiful moment and possible highlight in any DJ set. On ‘It’s Like That’ a dusty dub-house groove then flows through clonking percussion and a pitched down vocal until classicistic chords eventually wash over the arrangement. Drawing us in even deeper, ‘Take This Higher’ combines a bittersweet piano, romantic string melodies and an elegantly repeated vocal hook, toughened up by a low-slung house bass.

Kellerkind reveals a completely new facet on the electronic ballad ‘Monologue’, which features Laura Wiesmann’s soulful vox. This is tasteful pop that bedazzles due to its reduced nature, honest vulnerability and musical softness. Lastly, the field recordings of an airplane security brief form the base for heavy piano notes, a distant beat and knackered strings on the nostalgic yet hopeful outro ‘Itchy Feet’. The title couldn’t be more fitting: Kellerkind doesn’t like to stand still, something he certainly proves with ‘Music is a Miracle’!

Cuthead | Everlasting Sunday | Uncanny Valley

Cuthead Everlasting Sunday

Listen

There we go again. Finally, Cuthead returns with the long awaited follow-up to his “Brother EP”. His new record “Everlasting Sunday” surely fulfils some dreams as it is packed with no less than nine tracks. Three catchy House tunes on the A-Side and six Hip-Hop-jams on the B-side make for a very extended EP or a mini-album … the choice is up to you!

Right at the beginning we start with the sample-heavy “Maputo Jam”, a tune in classical Cuthead-manner with its irresistible drumming full of stumbling blocks and layers of sweet synth-melodies. “Nautic Walking” is a straighter House track with a guitar line and clapping samples but that bass line quickly reminds you whom you’re listening to. “Minerals” starts off pretty deeply before evolving from a jazzy House affair into an almost orchestral tune with opulent strings.

The flipside is an extensive expression of Cuthead’s inexhaustible love for Hip-Hop. There is feel-good material like “Everlasting Sunday” and “Deep Shadows” as well as banging joints like “Calculator Watch” with all the typical Cuthead-trademarks: sick bass work, stammering drumming and imaginative sampling.

Just A Mood | Sunday Morning Question | Trapez LTD

Just A Mood Sunday Morning Question

Listen

Just A Mood are Pietro Genuino and Alberto Viotti, two young producers from Turin.
They have their own event called “TrustMe” which hosted artists such as Derrick Carter, Kyle Hall, Motor City Drum Ensemble and more. For Trapez ltd they have written three dramatic tales with the machine driven funk of motor city techno combined with the introspective melancholic soul of early and raw Chicago & Detroit techno/house, for us a combination that continually proves irresistible.

Just A Mood open up their EP with the track “Sunday”. An uncooked piece of music which directly from the start formulates their fascination for simplicity in composition and its sexiness. We don’t know if Just A Mood have taken influences from icons such as Daniel Bell or Baby Ford but their down to earth appeal rooted in funky drum patters directly puts them close to these producers. There is a slight & beautiful “cosmic feeling” when manipulated vocals hover in and out over their hypnotic beats which gives the tracks the extra bit they need to breathe.

Their follow up track “Morning” picks up on beat driven funkiness but introduces levels of noise and FX sounds to create a stronger psychedelic form of deepness.
The track starts sort of harsh but makes its way into a hypnotic groove through Just A Mood’s sensitiveness and knowledge for deeper music.

They close their EP with “Question”, a fine deep track that lives by on its bongo beat of programmed rhythm, keeping a low profile which in the course of the track proves to capture a intense spiritual feeling.

Coyu | D Change | Cocoon Recordings

Coyu D Change

Listen

Cocoon latest artist signing Coyu is back on the track with his second Cocoon Recordings release. And he strikes back louder and heavier than ever before! For quite some time Coyu focused mainly on the deeper sides of house and techno, especially with his own label „Suara“. However his new Cocoon Release „I Want Your Jack“ is a stunning example for kicking and strong techno at its best and proofs these sounds are not only made in Sweden these days. „I Want Your Jack“ is pure energy and a dignified successor to Len Faki‘s remix of „Stranger To Stability“ by Dustin Zahn. A must play for the end of this years techno season.

Track number two „D-Change“ is a co-production with Chicago house legend K-Alexi. This man breathes the word „jack“ and he strongly influenced the techno-movements in cities like Berlin or Frankfurt. His productions added the right sound to clubs like the „Tresor“ or the „Omen“ in the early 90s and his colab with Coyu strongly refers to these times. „D-Change“ beams the high days of Underground Resistance and Industrial Strength into the year 2013. The message is clear and pure madness is called out on techno-floors with this one. We especially like the legendary „Are You Ready?“ vocal here, a famous whoop by Cocoon master Sven Väth back in the days.

„Octagon“ is the third track in this package however this is all but no bonus track. This is another proper techno-monster and Coyu added some cool house-elements here. Tribal beats and vague vocal samples shimmering in the backround make us want to dance around a tribal bonfire at night. „Octagon“ is a universal weapon for techno- and house-fans that will shake up dancefloors. This one is for the dancers and not for the rubbernecks!
