Monday Club Looking For Lewis EP

Listen

The London-based, Monday Club duo, are a relatively new name on the scene, having only released the one cut under this newly formed guise, entitled Flavono which featured on the 5 Years of ALiVE comp. The pair have chosen to keep their identities under wraps for now, but its safe to say they’re highly skilled producers, sitting alongside the likes of Chris James, Leftwing and Kody, and NTFO on the ALiVE roster. The single kicks off with the original mix of Flynn, a gritty house number built around raw 909 drums, low- end organ hits and classic hi-strings, while an amalgamation of vocal licks, baroque percussive changes and intermittent bass stabs create an ever-evolving dynamic as things progress. Following is Bent Over, taking on a different format to the opener, this time Monday Club opt for a more electronic feel, bringing a heady, acidic style bass hook to the forefront, while Detroit style pads, shuffled drums, and spoken word vocals add a touch of class to the composition. On the latter half of the release, we have the final cut from Monday Club, entitled D.M.T., this time taking on a more direct, deep-house format to wind down the original material brilliantly. Organic percussion, warm strings and soft chord stabs take the reins, again resulting in a smooth workout instilled with proficient production skills. Last up to close the EP, label-head Tom Budden reshapes Flynn, Tom turns in a stunning interpretation with a unique twist on the original, as saw-wave tones replace the organ bass hook and heavily processed, cosseting melodies and piano hits brilliantly meander round them.
